Preschool to Big School
Albion Park Rail Public School values the individual needs of each child as they move from preschool into 'Big School'. To ensure we actively engage with students, families and communities, we are committing to a holistic Preschool To Big School process. Our goal is to work closely with parents, carers, preschools and community to provide high quality immersion, orientation and transition experiences for our incoming students. From the year before we welcome them to Albion Park Rail Public School, our future students will have many opportunities to connect with students, teachers and rich learning experiences at our school. In doing this, we aim to ensure the path from preschool to big school is as nurturing, inclusive and successful as possible.
Transition
Part of this process involves making sure our new Kindy students have the best start to school possible! As our newest students begin their Kindergarten adventure at Albion Park Rail Public School, they will meet their Year 6 buddies and have lots of opportunities to build great relationships with them. From their very first day, our Kindys and their buddies will participate in school tours, library visits, shared reading, craft activities and sports games, to help them make some of their very first friends at Albion Park Rail Public School!
Itinerant Support Teacher - Early Intervention
In 2020 we welcomed Emma Wilkins as our Itinerant Support Teacher - Early Intervention. Emma continues to support families, pre-schools, childcare centres, family daycares and other public schools to transition children who may have a disability into Kindergarten. She works with many professional agencies to ensure the best outcome for our families.
If you think Emma may be able to help your family, please call her on 0426 927 783 during school hours.
Kindy Starter Play Groups
During the year our Albion Park Rail School Community Centre holds FREE Kinder Starter Playgroups for children turning 5 before 31 July the next year and are in-area for APRPS (live in Albion Park Rail). This program provides a safe space for your child to make new friends that will be transitioning to Kindy with them.
Our facilitator can answer any questions you may have regarding school expectations and gross/fine motor skills. Children also have the opportunity to visit Kindergarten classrooms and take part in some fun activities, as well as go on regular tours of the school. The centre is located on the school grounds via Tongarra Road.
For more information please call the APR School Community Centre on 0448 564 219.
