Religion and ethics

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

SPECIAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND NON-SCRIPTURE

In accordance with The Education Act 1990, Albion Park Rail Public School offers Special Religious Education (SRE) by providers approved by the Department of Education.

Special Religious Education (SRE) refers to education in the beliefs and practices of approved religious persuasions.

Catholic and Combined Christian SRE is offered at Albion Park Rail Public School to all students from K-6, delivered by authorised representatives of each religion to students who have nominated one of these religious preferences.

SRE lessons take place at our school every Thursday, and run for 30 minutes.

STUDENT PERMISSION TO PARTICIPATE

Participation in SRE lessons is voluntary and must be formally nominated by the parent or caregiver.

For students to participate in Catholic or Combined Christian SRE lessons, the parent or caregiver must complete the SRE Permission Note and return it to the office. SRE Form

The student will not be permitted to participate in SRE education without this written permission. Verbal permission to the classroom teacher is not sufficient for placement in these lessons. Where no religious preference is nominated, students will be automatically placed in Non-Scripture lessons.

NON-SCRIPTURE

Where parents or caregivers have not nominated a religion, or do not wish for their child to participate in SRE, we offer teacher-supervised Non-Scripture. During Non-Scripture periods, students will engage in meaningful activities such as reading and homework completion.

In accordance with Department of Education policy, no formal education instruction will take place during Non-Scripture.

Catholic SRE is delivered at our school by authorised providers from St Pauls Catholic Parish, Albion Park. Information about the Parish can be found at the link below:
